This set of new ideas is inspired by Southeast Asian gong ensembles, featuring piano, percussion, and electronics improvisation, live spatial sound, and homemade DIY gongs. "Unforgetting" is a concept introduced by Thongchai Winichakul, a survivor of the October 6, 1976, Thammasat University massacre, to describe the liminal space between remembering and forgetting—a state of suspended memory that characterizes the enduring silence surrounding this tragic event. This silence is not mere forgetfulness; rather, it represents the profound inability to either fully remember or completely forget, to articulate traumatic memories in ways that are comprehensible and meaningful, or to move beyond the past entirely. The core concept inspired by Jit Poumisak(จิตร ภูมิศักดิ์)’s series of essays(1954) speculating the evolution of Thai traditional music with indigenous knowledge in mind and critiques the “Frozen in Time” state of Thai traditional music. Jit Poumisak was a crucial Thai activist, writer, and historian who was seen as a threat and killed by the Thai government in the 1960s. –6849 MINI ZINE an exploration on perception of time by using polyrhythm According to Einstein’s general theory of relativity, time is not absolute. Clocks run faster on mountain peaks than sea level. There is no single beat that we all revolve around. The concept that time is a constant beat is merely an invention of human measurement of time. A musical composition '6849' paradoxically use a constant measurement of musical duration to shift perception by using polyrhythm, demonstrating the idea of time as not absolute. This Zine recreates, in visual form, the original composition '6849’ through a different medium, including data visualization, coding, and musical score. The result investigate the perception of a variety of independence pulses within the same duration. These sounds arrive charged with political complexity and contested memory that permeate both personal and collective experience. His practice spans electro-acoustic piano, Southeast Asian tuned analog synthesizer, spatial audio, gong making, and live coding, harnessing technology to produce multisensory live performances. Kengchakaj holds a graduate degree from the Manhattan School of Music and is a Fulbright Scholar and Gold Award Lumen Prize winner. He is currently a Jerome Hill Artist Fellow (2025–2028).
